Deck Bridge Abutment

A view looking up at the stone abutment on the west side of the Doe River. The ET&WNC tracks would have run across the top of this abutment and out onto the top of the 3-span wood covered deck bridge. There is a smaller abutment with a ledge underneath this abutment where the bottom end of one of the short bridge spans rested. The view from a passenger car while crossing this bridge would have been spectacular. There's a great story with lots of photos and a scale drawing of this bridge in the Fall/Winter 2004 issue of the "Stemwinder". If you'd like to find out more, but don't have access to that issue, it's available here at this link.
