Linville River Bridge at the Linville Depot

We got permission from the local fishing club to wander down their posted property to get to this site. This was a concrete arch bridge just like the one in the previous photo. This one just wasn't very tall. It's over the Linville River, just a few hundred feet from the site of the Linville Depot. This bridge was the scene of a washout of the railroad in 1940. I suspect that debris caused a backup and water came up and around the bridge, washing out the track to the right of this bridge. The river flows from right to left here, and the depot was in the direction we're facing and very close. This bridge was demolished when the highway was re-routed around this problem spot... there was evidently a 90 degree turn at both ends of the bridge.

That's the back of Dave Spiceland's head. Dave, you catchin' anything?
