Doe River at Tunnel 1
This is the old 19E highway bridge that ran next to
the ET&WNC covered deck bridge outside of Hampton. Doe River
is down below. That's John at the far end of the
bridge. It was bitterly cold on this bridge and at the tunnel.
It was in the shade and the wind seemed to be coming along the
river valley. That concrete thing is a covering over the 12"
water main that comes across this bridge. The pipe was covered
in concrete (not sure why, maybe for security) in 1998. The pipe
is still used by Elizabethton to get water from Hampton. This
bridge doesn't look like it will stand much longer. The right
side of the bridge is missing about halfway across. If it goes,
I don't think that concrete box is going to take care of that
pipe. |
