Doe River Gorge

Here it is. Probably *the* highlight of the convention, at least for me. This is the Doe River Ministry's own speeder. Lots of new ties and re-gauged rails made it possible to run a "Spat" car into the Gorge, at least as far as the first big retaining wall where, unfortunately, there is a large hole in the ballast and nothing holding up the rail. It is amazing how fast you can get to places in the Gorge on this thing. Riding, rather than hiking, brings a new dimension into the Gorge. One can almost imagine that you're riding the ET almost a hundred years ago...if you can ignore the sound of the "Spat" car.
