MacRae Lumber Company Drying Shed at Linville

A three-quarter view of the front shows more of the bulk of this beautiful example of post and beam construction. And the loading platform shows up nicely, although it was much bigger at one point and there were double doors on this end. The interior wood framing of this shed was said to be Carolina Hemlock and Chestnut, and may have lasted another 100 years except for our intervention. A life-long resident who has lived and worked next door for over 50 years says it was like losing a friend when the building was torn down. The building had been used for storage by the Hugh Morton estate for many years.
