Valley Creek Bridge Site
Peter Stroth points out a piece of very lightweight rail used as re-bar in the remaining abutment at the Valley Creek Bridge site close to Foscoe. This bridge was a 3-span affair with a matcing abutment on the other bank of Valley Creek. There were 2 large concrete pads down in the boulder-strewn creek for the steel girder legs holding up the bridge spans. I believe this bridge survived the 1940 flood unharmed, but the abutment on the east side of the creek has broken up and pretty much disappeared over the years in subsequent high water situations. This one still seems to be as stable as when it was put in about 1917. |
