Cranberry Maple Trees

In this circa-1910 photo from the John Waite Collection you can clearly see the young maple trees as saplings in their wood box protectors. The maples lined the old road just as they do now, but with a white picket fence between them and the Cranberry Mine company houses, a good many of which still exist. Look closely to see the steeple of the Cranberry Baptist Church peeking from behind the third house. This old photo and the newer one were taken from about the same vantage point, this one looking north and the newer one looking south. To go back to the newer photo click here.
