Linville Depot Restoration
Got some 2x4s up where the walls will be. You really start to get a feel for the space when the walls go in. The passenger waiting room and the agent's office are still the same size as when the small depot was built. The Linville Depot has had an interesting and busy past. Built in about 1918 as a small depot, the freight section was enlarged by 16' a few years later while the railroad still ran to Linville. It was sold and converted to a store when the railroad closed up shop in 1940. After a 10 year stint as a store it became a private residence until the nearby highway was widened in the late 60s. Then it was time to move it or tear it down, so the owners had it moved over to Grape Street in Linville where it continued to be their home until it was to be torn down or moved in 2007. Amazingly it was saved and moved, thanks to countless hours and dollars by volunteers and sponsors. It's already being recognized as a real contribution to the historical community. |
