Grandfather Mountain from Shulls Mills

The classic profile of the old man in Grandfather Mountain is evident in this long-range shot while we were leaving Shulls Mills. The field in the foreground is where the Boone Fork Lumber Company mill at Shulls Mills was located. The track washed out and this field was under water from the Watauga River during the 1940 flood. The Watauga is over to the left behind that line of trees.
