Steel Thru Truss Bridge in the Doe River Gorge

Don't know if this concrete abutment was from the original wooden covered bridges that graced the Gorge, but my guess would be that new abutments were done when these second-hand steel bridges replaced the washed out wood ones in about 1901. The concrete abutment at the end we hiked in to had someone's name written in when the concrete was still wet. We never could get beyond "J. W.........". Anyone have a guess?
