Deck Bridge Stone Pier at Tunnel 1

Dont' know what happened to the foliage that obscured this stone support for the deck bridge at tunnel 1, but it was sure gone. This is the best view there's been of this one in years. Perhaps it was cleared by the Water Department folks to make sure they had access to everything around the bridge. Looks like a nice crop of weeds growing on top. You can see the concrete pad at the bottom right of the support that was a foundation for trestle timbers that provided extra stability for this end of the deck bridge when it was here. This deck bridge would have been taken out sometime around 1951. The wooden covered bridge down at Hampton, however, was still standing in 1953.
