Johnson City

Here's a railroad bridge abutment in Johnson City left over from the tannery days. This bridge was over Brush Creek and was used by the ET&WNC. The track was a dual gauge connector between the Southern tracks (straight ahead) and the ET tannery spur (behind me). It also connected to the CC&O furnace spur (also behind me) and was used for delivering tan bark cars to the drying sheds and to the tannery itself. The abutment on this side of the creek is gone. I believe it was removed when the expressway overpass was added and when Water Street (where I'm standing) was widened. The tannery would have been off to the right side of this photo.
