East Tennessee Railway in Johnson City
The ETRy is making money at this, moving dirt. These
are fulls and emptys being swapped out in the ET yard with the
little yard office just off to the left.
Let me see if I can get this straight. Slightly (and
I emphasize the word "slightly") contaminated dirt
is dug up and loaded into these containers down around Erwin
(I believe) and hauled by truck to the ET yard. When the truck
gets to the yard, a crane puts the full containers on the container
cars and takes off the emptys, which are hauled by truck
back down to Erwin to be loaded again. Once they get a full train
of dirt, it is hauled by the CSX to Utah to be dumped in a hazardous
waste containment site. All the ETRy is doing in this is providing
a place to load and offload the container cars. Pretty good work
if you can get it. |
