Covered Bridge in Elizabethton
A view of the first bridge across the Doe River in
Elizabethton from the Elk Avenue Bridge (the second bridge across
the Doe), which leads to the monument in the town square. As
much damage as this river has done in the Elizabethton area,
I'm real suprised that it is still standing and actively used
after over 100 years. With the city park on the left side, this
bridge and spillway make an ideal setting for the annual Bridge
Festival. This festival has been on the same weekend as our convention
several times. Note the pristine condition of the little waterfall. It changes in later photos of this same area after one of the floods. |
