Cranberry Iron Mine Wildlife
It was October, so the mine was a little colder than in the summer. We ran across a few overwintering bats that were clinging to places on the ceiling low enough for us to reach up and grab them. No one thought that was such a good idea so a photo had to suffice. These bats are now protected, and a bat-friendly gate just inside the mine allows the bats to freely come and go, but keeps people away from one of their few remaining habitats. |
