Railroad Superintendent's House at Cranberry
This is the Superintendent of the railroad's house on the high
hill between Elk Park and Cranberry. It kinda looks down on the substation
there at 19E. It had been lived in
until shortly before 1994. What follows are several interior and exterior shots of this old structure.
That's Cliff Ward holding my yard stick for scale. Cliff and I went in (despite the "posted"
signs) and shot a few pictures. The stairway to the second floor looked
about to give way so I never made it up there. Wish I had. This is the front of the house where the porch and its roof has fallen
in. The kitchen is on the right side of the house and had a two story bay
arrangement. There is a window behind the ivy on the
first floor on the left side of the house that had some amber
colored glass around the edges similar to a stained glass window. The clapboard
siding had been painted blue at one time, but that was many years ago.
The siding is in remarkable shape to have stood up to this damp weather
for this many years with no protection. Not sure what kind of wood it is.
As an update, this structure was still standing in June of 2010.
