East Tennessee Railway Motorcar Number 2
Ex-ET&WNC standard gauge motorcar number 2. This big,
homemade speeder was originally built narrow gauge by the ET&WNC, then re-gauged to
standard gauge by the railroad when their needs changed and the narrow gauge shut down. In this photo it's sitting over a narrow gauge
pit in the Johnson City engine house that has had the rails widened
to standard gauge. This thing is big, heavy and powered by an
old flathead Ford engine. The speeder was donated to the ET&WNC
RR Historical Society (although I don't think everyone could
get on it at one time) and it was subsequently donated to the Doe
River Gorge Ministries for their trips up and down the rails in the Gorge. It has again been donated to another group and is in the process of being returned
to narrow gauge and restored.
