ET&WNC Johnson City Yard
Don't tell anybody, but I had to stop my car quickly on the
expressway overpass, jump out to shoot this picture, then get back in
the car and get out of the way of traffic. This Johnson City yard
scene is a far cry from what it was in the ET's heyday. During its peak
time, there were at least 6 dual gauge tracks across here, most owned by
the ET&WNC, but a few tracks being owned by the CC&O. The famous
coal and oil transfer trestle was on the left where the line of trees and shrubs
are now. The ETRy enginehouse is in the center in the distance. Harris
Lumber has been in its same location for close to 100 years. I believe
the Division Street underpass, built in 1922, is almost directly below
us. |
