Tunnel 5 near Blevins
This is the west end of Sand Tunnel, the downhill end of the longest tunnel on the ET&WNC. This end of the tunnel is only partially covered in the loose, crumbly rock that this ridge is made of and gives the tunnel its name. The other end is completely blocked and almost unrecognizeable as a tunnel portal. This end is at least accessible but contains several feet of water. That hill of "sand" seems to get higher each year as new stuff is washed down from above with each heavy rain. |
