The Blue Ridge Stemwinder, or the "Stemwinder" as it is more commonly known, is the journal created for members of the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad Historical Society by originator John R. Waite in 1988. The Stemwinder provided the impetus needed to create the ET&WNC RR Historical Society, helped hold the society together for 20 years, provided the best information about the ET&WNC Railroad that was available, and was one of the better railroad historical society publications in the country. John and I, with the help of contributors, produced this journal for members of the ET&WNC RR Historical Society over a span of 20 years, 1988-2007. The Stemwinder contains excellent stories, never-before-seen photos, detailed railroad maps, scale drawings of railroad equipment and structures, reproductions of historical railroad documents, and news about anything associated with the ET&WNC Railroad, the historical society and its members. You won't find a much better railroad historical society publication anywhere. The 62 issues of the Stemwinder contained in this volume have been converted to PDF files. The majority of the issues, where all that remains are the printed journals, have been meticulously scanned to provide the best balance between legibility and photo quality, with photo quality being paramount. Where available, the original electronic files have been used to make the highest quality PDF files possible. |
