Founded by John Waite in 1989 with a handful of ET&WNC enthusiasts, the ET&WNC Railroad Historical Society has expanded to hundreds of loyal followers of the little narrow gauge railroad. Intent upon preserving the history of the line, the Society holds a convention once a year in June in the ET&WNC area, and has been instrumental in helping preserve several of the few remaining pieces of rolling stock. The Society also helps preserve artifacts, photos and historical documents pertaining to the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad/Linville River Railway.

A one-year membership to the non-profit Historical Society is $20.00, part of which pays for a subscription to the twice-yearly journal of the Society, Every Time With No Complaint, produced for the organization by Society President Johnny Graybeal. The remaining amount goes into the operating budget which includes funds for the Society's projects. Contact Larry Brown for more information or for a membership.

The 24th annual convention of the Historical Society will be held June 15, 16 & 17, 2012 at the Best Western Mountain Lodge in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Contact Jerry Turbyfill for more information about the convention, or Larry Brown to register.
